CASE STUDY
The Challenge
Oak Tree Medical Center, an out-patient surgery center as well as an out-patient multi specialty imaging center, needed a site for both physicians who use their services and patients who come in for treatment.
The Approach
First we identified the four main user groups and their goals; patients, patient's support (family and friends), physicians, and physician's staff, especially those handling insurance and billing.
The goal for physicians was quick, easy access to their patient's scans and reports. For patients the goal was to receive friendly, respectful, reassuring care. They needed to know such things as how to contact, find the facility, information about their procedures, what forms they needed, how to schedule and prepare for an appointment and how to handle fees and billing.
The Result
Physicians have a "Physician's Lounge" area with a prominently displayed link to view scans
online 24 hours a day. Patients have a "Patient Information" area that provides forms, schedules, insurance
and preparation for treatment information.
The interface is a soothing olive green in keeping with the Oak Tree theme. Colorful, friendly photos welcome one to Oak Tree Center. The center originally suggested using medical scans as the main graphical element. By reviewing the persona goals we felt that, although the physicians would be interested, it might scare the patients. Instead we created a library of scans linked from the Physician's Lounge.
